Job Description

•  Providing high quality nursing care and safe clinical practice to patients undergoing theatre Surgical procedures in accordance with ethical, safety and professional standards
•  Providing professional empathetic care to patients, explain procedures to them, and provide support and reassurance
•  Performing pre-procedure assessments, coordinating nursing care, formulating patient care plans, and evaluating outcomes
•  Preparing the procedure room, ensuring the correct supplies, medication, equipment, and instruments are set up and prepared for use and all equipment is in a clean and safe condition
•  Ensuring all monitoring equipment is fully calibrated prior to use
•  Assisting the Anesthetist and Surgeon and undertake procedures and skills in a competent and safe way
•  Performing proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection control measures
•  Assisting in Providing IV cannulation as required
•  Administering interventions, treatments and medications to patients pre-& post procedures according to authorized prescription and our established policy and guidelines
•  Adhering to health and safety protocols relating to safe administration and disposal of drugs
•  Accurate & complete documentation in a timely manner
•  Adherering to the WHO surgical safety checklist which entails signing in, time out and signing out of patients
•  Undertaking correct post-procedure disinfection processes, care and handling of equipment, ensuring all used instruments are disposed of, decontaminated and sterilized as appropriate, and all areas are cleaned
•  Performing admission, recovery, discharge and transfer functions; coordinate with ancillary and support services as required
•  Providing pre and post-procedure information and instruction to patients, their care giver and/or support person
•  Recognizing and responding appropriately to emergency situations
•  Utilizing nursing interventions to reducing risks and complications
•  Reporting any adverse incidents or complaints
•  Monitoring consumables and ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained
•  Providing back up support for the Theatre Sterilizing Unit as required
•  Any other duty as assigned

Required Qualifications for the Position

•  Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nurses (KRCHN)
•  Higher National Diploma in Perioperative Nursing (KRPON)
•  Computer Proficiency
•  Registered with NCK with a valid practicing license
•  Minimum experience of 2 years as a Perioperative Nurse
