Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Distribution System: Build a lean distribution system that is highly trackable and scalable to distribute large numbers of stoves across Kenya
  • Team Management: Recruit a distribution team across 10 countries made up of 1000+ agents and manage their activities, KPIs, and budget.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Own the M&E requirements of this distribution project, including measuring specific social and environmental impact metrics through surveys and home observations.
  • Problem Solving: Solve a variety of challenges as they arise in distribution, staffing, partnerships, and financials.
  • Reporting: Produce weekly & monthly reports for the senior management team highlighting performance against KPIs.  

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Inventory Management: Working with the senior team to develop systems to ensure BURN products are delivered securely to storage locations throughout sub-Saharan Africa
  • Strategy: Develop and execute a B2C strategy for distributing 1 million+ wood stoves into rural markets across Africa
  • Business Development: Work with BURN’s distribution partners to extend this distribution program to their networks and ensure that they are fulfilling BURN’s registration and evaluation requirements.
  • P&L: Build a profitable B2C wood stove Business Unit, including budgeting, P&L, and sales operations

 Education and Experience

  • 5+ years working experience in building and running last-mile distribution systems
  • Leadership experience – at least 5 years’ experience managing a team of hundreds of people
  • Detailed knowledge of last-mile and rural logistics and distribution processes
  • Knowledge of stock control and management of decentralized storage and distribution sites
  • Ability to work autonomously and think on your feet
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good data analysis skills
  • Ability to work in a highly demanding dynamic environment

We expect: a minimum of 5 years of proven success taking a consumer product startup to scale in Sub Saharan Africa. It is essential that the previous experience is within a startup with a minimum annual turnover of $1,000,000. You are a strong communicator, have always the overview over all moving pieces in your team. You have immense experience in managing teams that might span different time zones.
